"Craving pure perfection is a common goal amongst life in all forms. Whether it be through the influence of religion or internal motivation. The path to perfection is transparent. There is no true sense of perfection. Within each soul there is a divine purpose and that purpose is what creates what we call the world. Now the basic understanding of perfection is misjudged, cliches ring through the world stating all perfection is in oneself. While this statements is overrung, nonetheless the foundation is the simple truth"-

Let’s talk horror, can you think of the scariest thing in the world? Or should I say the thing that haunts each of our individual dreams. Personally, I find the scariest thing in the world to be when you think you are 100% safe. Take a church, for example, a holy and peaceful place. The place we go to purify our soul and minds of evil and the devil. Well, how would you feel knowing that in that place of worship and purity is where the darkest types of evil manifest into each of our own personal nightmares. Be ready on September 7th, 2018, the prequel to a personal favorite, The Conjuring (based on true events), The Nun is coming to theaters. Where we have been warned to “Pray for forgiveness” because she is coming for us all.

Where it all started, the story behind The Conjuring. The movie is based on actual events which give kind of an eerie feeling, eerie in the way its a Hollywood set and you know what that the events on the screen are faked but how truth was the foundation gives me shivers up my spine. Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) are paranormal investigators and Lorraine had the gift of clairvoyance, are sought out by Carolyn Perron due to strange happenings consuming her family’s new home, a very old farmhouse deep in Rhode Island (1971). To our surprise, the warrens uncover the source of the hauntings the Perrons experience, a women name Bathsheba. A relative to Marry Towne Easty, who was accused of Witchcraft and hung during the Salem Witch Trials. The Perron family was larger than normal, including five girls Andrea, Cristine, Nacy, April, and Cindy, and parents Carolyn and Roger. The horror story began with the unexpected death of the beloved family dog Sady and eventually ending in the possession of Carolyn. Bathsheba would possess the mother, something the Warrens uncovered when the multiple deaths were connected to the property once owned by Bathseba. Who in 1863 sacrificed her newborn child, proclaimed her love for Satan and cursed anyone who took her land, and hung herself from the tree facing the house and lake. After a stressed and untrained Ed Warren had enough and with no help from the Vatican Ed took matters into his own hands and with the help of Roger, Lorraine, deputy sheriff Brad, and the Warrens tech guru Drew they were able to save the family and lift the curse when Ed performed the exorcism, not without difficulty I might add.

We are introduced to an entity that haunts Lorraine Warren when Ed is talking to Roger over the broke down Chevy, during a previous exorcism Lorraine was shown something and goes into their bedroom, where she doesn’t eat, sleep or come out for eight days. In The Conjuring 2, we finally learn she saw Ed’s death, which she narrowly stops in The Conjuring 2. I mean come on, I would also be traumatized after watching my husband die on a loop in my head and had no idea when it would happen. Knowing but not being able to stop it is like running in a pool of glue.

The entity coming for Ed is the manifestation of, what I believe, to be the Warrens worst nightmare. They are active members of the Vatican and are believers themselves. Yet the demon reaping for Ed is a Nun. A Nun, how ironic a representation of the church as a whole, a woman who has sworn off men and has married God is the pawn of the Devil. It is truly an ingenious concept. The place we are told is safe from evil and harm is where it manifests.

The trailer for The Nun opens with a familiar scene from The Conjuring 2, Ed Warrens insomnia-fueled painting of a Nun. The story of how the Nun came to be is following the journey of Sister Irene, a young novitiate who has visions and nightmares of a terrifying Nun and Father Burke, a priest with a haunted past who are sent by the Vatican to an abbey in Romania to investigate the death of a young nun, and face the malevolent force. The trailer is filled with jump scares and I am beyond excited to see if the movie can live up to the hype. Plus the trailer starts with “Make sure you watch until the end” and ends with “Pray for forgiveness”. Spooky huh?

Official consensus will be after I see it, stay tuned…
